3 Free or Inexpensive Things Your Family Can Do During Your Spring Break

Hi friends! Our girls have the entire week ahead off from school for Spring Break. As someone who likes to be as thrifty as possible, I've been trying to come up with ideas to keep us all active and entertained without spending money we don't necessarily have or want to spend.

Here are 3 things we are looking forward to during the week:

1. Visiting new (& maybe a few favorite) state parks or hiking trails.

This is one of our favorite activities. We usually visit the same few, but a friend has been posting pictures of places I never knew about, so we are looking forward to checking them out this week.

This activity is typically free, but you may want to verify with your state's listings to be sure.

One of the state parks we recently visited for the first time ever was Camp Columbia in Morris, CT.

2. Geocaching

Another favorite (and free*!) family activity. If you've never heard of geocaching, the best thing I can think to compare it to is a treasure hunt...even though you may or may not find trinkets inside. We use an app on my phone and follow clues and coordinates to find hidden 'caches'. *You can absolutely participate in this activity for free, but there is a paid option available if you choose to take advantage of it.

A picture from one of our first geocaching adventures! The girls were about 8 and 3 here 😮

Our crew is still working our way to finding our 100th geocache. I'm looking forward to getting closer to it this week!

3. Family Field Day

We did this last year since it was the first time without a school field day since my oldest was in Kindergarten. The cost of this activity depends on what you plan for your field day. We did an egg toss (with plastic easter eggs), a fill the bucket challenge (think Double Dare), a unicorn ring toss (game we already had), and ended with a water balloon fight! I think we spent about $15 for the water balloons & pumps, but everything else we used we already had around the house.

Playing the unicorn ring toss game for family field day. This will be included in this year's activities as well.

Those are just 3 of the activities we are looking forward to during our Spring break. If you are on a break this week, I hope these ideas were helpful. I'd also love to hear what you have planned,  so be sure to leave a comment and let me know!

Have a splendid Sunday!
