Easy as (2 *Black Cow*) Pie(s)

Today is National Black Cow Day. If you don't know what that means, don't feel too badly because I didn't either. If you do know what it means I'm a little envious of how you grew up! I will do my best to explain it to the others and I apologize ahead of time if my explanation causes you to feel some type of way.

For those who don't know, a "Black Cow" is, from what I gather, one of the following:

1. A Root Beer Float made with chocolate ice cream instead of vanilla

2. A Float type drink made with cola instead of root beer.

I'm not sure how the day came about or which of these drinks is the real deal, but they both sound delicious to me so I really don't care what you call it as long as you make me one.

I was planning to make one for each of us for dessert, but my youngest, R, doesn't really like ice cream.  So, naturally,  I had to find a different way for us to enjoy a "Black Cow". My mind immediately thought of brownies, but I'm really disinterested in turning the oven on, so I figured a no-bake pie would be just the thing. Of course, since I'm not exactly sure which one is the true "black cow", I will have to make 2 separate pies.

I tried to find a recipe online, but didn't have much luck. I ended up quasi-creating my own, inspired deeply by the Root Beer Float Pie Recipe at Mostly Homemade Mom

For Pie 1 (root beer with chocolate ice cream):

Store bought Graham cracker pie crust

3/4 cup of your favorite root beer

8 ounce tub of whipped topping

1/2 cup of milk

1 package of chocolate pudding mix

Mix the root beer, milk, and pudding until well combined. Fold in half of the tub of whipped topping and then spread mixture into the bottom of your pie crust. If you'd like, you can add the other half of the whipped topping to the top, or go ahead and save it for pie #2 (if you're also making 2 pies) or another treat.

Cover pie and refrigerate for 2-4 hours before serving.

For Pie 2 (cola with vanilla ice cream):

Store bought Graham cracker pie crust

3/4 cup of your favorite cola (most Black Cow recipes specifically mentioned Coke, but we already had Pepsi at the house)

8 ounce tub of whipped topping (or the other half tub from pie #1)

1/2 cup of milk

1 package of vanilla pudding mix

Whisk together the cola, milk, and pudding until well combined. Next, fold in half a tub of whipped topping. Spread the mixture into the bottom of your pie crust. If you opened a new container of whipped topping for this recipe, you can add it to the top of the pie or save it for another treat.

Again, cover the pie and refrigerate for 2-4 hours before serving.

We'll be enjoying these pies later on tonight. I'll be sure to update this post with pictures as they become available. If you have anything you would like to add about Black Cow (the drink, the day, or even the animal) leave a commet!
